I saw Slumdog Millionaire a week or two ago and I still cannot stop thinking about it.
It is such a beautiful, emotional, AMAZING movie and is easily in my top 10. You should all see it. Trust me, you won't regret seeing this movie!

For those of you not familiar with the movie, it is the story of a 17-year old boy from the slums of Mumbai who gets onto the Indian version of "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?" and advances to the final question when he is accused of cheating. The movie is basically him telling the police inspector how different events in his life helped him to answer each question. The movie also tells of his search for his childhood sweetheart, Latika, whom he has been separated from numerous times, and how he will stop at nothing to find her.

In my obsessiveness, I capped the HD trailer for the movie and made a picspam:
- It's not in any particular order because I was capping all over the place.
- I was inspired by peopleareshapes's beautiful picspams. They brighten my day.
- It's really long. Beware.

I got a new computer....and I was pleasantly surprised by Twilight...

I gotta say, I went into Twilight with quite low expectations. I had seen almost all of the Twilight trailers, clips, TV spots, etc. and quite frankly, I thought it looked corny. I was prepared to go see some two-hour cheesefest and....

I was pleasantly surprised when I saw it yesterday.

So, first off, Robert Pattinson was really hot as Edward. That was obligatory. I mean, I thought he was hot in Harry Potter, but this was pretty much a showcase for his hotness (just as Twilight is for Edward). The paleness of his face really bothered me, even though I know that vampires are supposed to be pale. And DAMN, I LOVE THAT PEACOAT.

Kristen Stewart is super pretty. I am really envious of her hair.
Oh, and I thought that really the most cheesy part of the movie was James. He was really annoying. And when he broke Bella's leg, jeez...It pained me to watch that, literally.

But yeah, overall it was surprisingly good.
Oh, and Jacob looked pretty hot in that last scene. I almost forgot how much I despise his hair and whoever styled it that way.

Actually, look at this list. I agreed with almost everything on it.
28 Reasons Twilight the Movie is Better Than TwiFail the Book from New York Magazine
1. First of all, the demands of compressing a 500-page book into a two-hour movie mean that most of the boring scenes of Edward brooding about stuff have been cut. In fact, for the entire middle third of the movie, Edward seems happy most of the time, which Robert Pattinson frankly plays a lot better than he does the dark, serious looks.
2. The movie adds an amazing sequence in which Edward takes Bella to the top of an enormous tree for a view of the mountains and river below. It actually totally rules.
3. In the movie, vampires make an unnecessary but awesome whooshing sound when they jump around.
4. Bella's new friends in Forks have been given the Catherine Hardwicke treatment: They're cooler, funnier, more multicultural, and way more interesting than they are in the book, where they're mostly there to serve as distractions that Bella ignores on her way to Edward. For instance, Eric -- described in the book as "a gangly boy with skin problems" who's "the overly-helpful chess-club type" -- turns into a hip, attractive Gaysian. And when everyone goes to the beach, they don't just take boring walks to the tide pools; they go surfing!
5. Who knew Charlie's mustache was so awesome?
6. At the movie, you get to hear teenage girls shrieking, "I love you, Edward!!!" before the opening credits even begin.
7. We predict at least one actual Team Edward vs. Team Jacob riot in a movie theater somewhere in America; the rivalry gets much more visceral with audience members cheering the arrival of their heroes.
8. While the baseball scene can't completely avoid seeming like the campy miscalculation it is, we love that the vampires wear old-timey baseball uniforms.
9. There are jokes! Like, people tell jokes! Instead of just glumly or romantically talking about things! Bella and Edward even tell jokes to each other!
10. We guess because the movie was made by non-Mormons, there's a joke about Speedo-stuffing! And two jokes about boobs.
11. For no apparent reason, the alluring young waitress who can't stop flirting with Edward in Port Angeles has been transformed into a weird hipster chick with a hilarious bouffant.
12. When Edward explains to Bella that he can read thoughts, he points around the restaurant and tells her what everyone's thinking about: "Money ... sex ... sex ... money ... cat."
13. In a touching ode to primitive research technology, Bella actually reads a little bit about vampires in a book! Before going straight to Google.
14. Unlike in Twilight the book, in which Edward's afraid to even describe a hunt, we actually get to see Edward chase down a deer in the movie.
15. When Bella visits Edward's family, they charmingly attempt to cook her a meal. "We finally get to use the kitchen!" Dr. Cullen says.
16. The wall of the Cullens' house features a cute mural made up of dozens of the vampires' high-school graduation caps.
17. Due to Edward's chastity, at every point in the movie where you're expecting a sex scene, the filmmakers are forced to show long sequences of Edward and Bella lying down and staring soulfully at each other. They're even shot just like sex scenes! It's impossible to explain just how funny this is onscreen.
18. It really drives home the book's overarching message of the dangers of female sexuality when we actually see flushed temptress Bella, late at night in her bedroom, forcing herself upon Edward and the poor innocent vampire flinging himself against a wall to keep himself in check.
19. When Bella's mom hears that her daughter has a boyfriend, she demands, "Are you being safe?" We foresee a whole new tie-in line of armor-plated Twilight condoms!
20. At no point in the movie does this scene occur. (Referencing the "YOU MADE ME FAINT!" scene).
21. Also, this scene was cut, thank God. (Referencing the "You're intoxicated by my very presence" crazy).
22.In general, we're just so relieved that the movie did away with most of the 1,000 scenes in which basically this exact thing happens:
Bella: Don't go!
Edward: I should go, but I can't.
Bella: I am happy!
Edward: You're an idiot for being happy.
Bella: You are still totally gorgeous OMG OMG.
23. The other vampires - Laurent, Victoria, and James - don't just appear out of nowhere on page 375 because Stephenie Meyer belatedly realized something needed to happen. They make appearances throughout the movie, hunting and killing humans, which gives the movie not only little bursts of much-needed action but at least a game attempt at some suspense.
24. There's an actual fight scene between Edward and James, instead of Bella just passing out and getting told about it later. Mostly it's just them throwing each other through windows and crap, but in a story that's totally starved for action it's nice that they tried.
25. The movie answers in seconds a burning question the book never bothered to address: Do vampires in Twilight have reflections? Spoiler: Yes, they do!
26. Uh, Alice jumps onto James and TOTALLY BREAKS HIS NECK!
27. Movie prom is set in a gorgeous, opulent building with a twinkling gazebo for Edward and Bella's final dance! Book prom takes place in the gym.
28. "And so the lion fell in love with the lamb," Bella says. In the book, you just roll your eyes. In the movie theater, everyone cheers wildly.

OH YEAH. And I got a NEW COMPUTER. It's pretty sexy. It's a shiny, sleek Dell. And I got a nice big monitor too. 22 inches. Unfortunately, all of the money for this came out of my pocket. Alas...At least I have Vista and my internet works, unlike on my previous 7-year old computer.

This is similar to what my monitor and computer look like. Although, the computer is a bit cooler.

P.S. Apparently Pushing Daisies has been canceled...I'm really upset. :(

I just finished watching Children of Men and this morning I finished reading the graphic novel Watchmen. I was blown away by both.

Children of Men is overrun with desperation and hopelessness, and yet the most important theme is hope, which is what makes it such a masterpiece. Beautifully filmed, the movie is definitely a thought-provoker. And if you watch it or have already seen it, the very end is my favorite scene. I really liked what Alfonso Cuarón said about it...
He said: "We wanted the end to be a glimpse of a possibility of hope, for the audience to invest their own sense of hope into that ending. So if you're a hopeful person you'll see a lot of hope, and if you're a bleak person you'll see a complete hopelessness at the end."

As for Watchmen, I thought it was extremely interesting that the main characters do not possess any superpowers (except for Dr. Manhattan) and very human in their struggles. They're flawed and I think that is why Watchmen is so unique and so interesting to read. I can't quite explain why I liked it so much, I'm sure you'll understand though if you take the time to read it.

Let me just a little bit of fangirling in there: Clive Owen is SUPER DUPER SEXY (nothing new) and Watchmen is super badass. And the ending is just wow. I can't wait for the movie.

P.S. WTF is with HP 6 being moved back to next summer?!!?!?!??!?!?!!? I don't care that Twilight is coming out early either, because I'm pretty sure it's going to be cheesy as hell. And they had to announce all of this just when I'm starting to get really pumped for HP and am at the same time disappointed with the Twilight series. UGGGHHHHHH.

SO. Go read Watchmen and watch Children of Men, you won't regret it.

I just watched The Diving Bell & The Butterfly, an extremely beautiful film. Go watch it. Also watch 3:10 to Yuma.
And of course, go see The Dark Knight if you haven't already seen it. Although, judging by its phenomenal numbers, I'm sure you've already seen it at least twice. ;)

In this entry, I will write about the pure brilliance that is The Dark Knight. I will also write about how disappointed I was by Breaking Dawn.

I've seen The Dark Knight three times. I enjoyed it the most the second time because having seen the movie and knowing the plot, I was able to focus on more specific details, my favorite scenes, the little things that really make the movie stand out. The first time I was absorbing it all and the third time, I started to notice the 150+ minute length a tiny bit. Mainly because I had to use the lavatory but was too scared that I would miss a good part.

Anyways, since most of you have seen the movie, I'm just going to talk about my favorite parts and why I liked them so much.

1) I love the montage of scenes right after Rachel's death. Joker hanging out of the cop car, his hair blowing in the wind. Batman standing in the burning rubble, looking at Harvey's coin as Alfred opens the letter from Rachel. Harvey waking in the hospital and realizing Rachel is dead and his silenced scream.
I think the lack of music and sound just makes these scenes so much more poignant. And they are really beautifully filmed scenes as well (Batman and Joker's at least). These scenes are perfection. These are the scenes that alienate The Dark Knight from other superhero movies like Spider-Man, that seperates it from that genre.

2) Another one of my favorite scenes is when they are transporting Harvey Dent and there is the convoy of police cars and SWAT trucks. That one overhead shot of Gotham and the long line of police cars and the armored truck approaching a burning fire truck in the middle of the road. The colors and just that wide expanse. So beautiful. And then it becomes so badass with Joker hanging out of the truck with the bazooka. And Batman completely owning him with his Batpod. And then Gordon gets his moment of ownage as well. Just an awesome scene all around.

3) The end of the movie. Once again, a montage of awesome shots and Gordon's voiceover is really poignant. I love it. Alfred burning the letter, Lucius walking from the room while the sonar technology is destroyed, Batman riding up out of the tunnel. Just writing this makes me want to see the movie again. And the music makes it so much more epic too.

4) Heathus as the Joker. Enough said. The number of quotable lines from him? A gazillion. And just thinking about Heathus in Brokeback Mountain compared to his role as the Joker is just wow. I miss him.

5) Maggie Gyllenhaal and the rest of the cast. I really admire Maggie in general, she always seems so cute and spunky and smart in her movies. And I like that she made Rachel seem like an intelligent, independent woman. I mean, Katie Holmes did a good job, but watching Batman Begins again, she just didn't seem as idealistic as Maggie does. She didn't bring that sense of determination while also showing a different side of Rachel with Harvey and also with Bruce.
Senor Bale as always is amazing. He makes a phenomenal Batman and Bruce Wayne and really showed the character's inner turmoil well. I just watched 3:10 to Yuma yesterday and was blown away by his and Russell Crowe's performances. Oh, forgot to say, Christian Bale is one sexy mo'fo. As is Aaron Sexhart, who was equally amazing as Harvey Dent.

I feel like I say 'amazing' too much...Well, that should give you a clue, at least.

Oh, btw. I can't believe they killed Rachel!!!11 It made me really sad. I really liked Rachel. And dude, killing her is going where no superhero movie has gone.
I was saying that Spider-Man might as well have just sat down and watched tv rather than bother saving MJ in the third movie, 'cause we all know she's not going to die. Seriously! That's one of my major complaints with the Spider-Man movies: MJ is always in peril at the end. And she never dies. Spider-Man always saves her! They should do something new for once. Like have MJ die!!! Anyways, this made me realize how serious The Dark Knight was. I wouldn't have been surprised if Alfred died or Lucius after that. Bold move on Chris Nolan's part. As much as I dislike that Rachel died, I applaude it.

I really enjoyed the first three Twilight books. I'm not gonna lie. Breaking Dawn, not so much.

I'VE HAD IT WITH EDWARD AND BELLA. I can't stand how Edward never lets Bella make any of her own decisions or do what she thinks is right. He is a controlling (No, you can't see your best friend!), belittling (You're so clumsy, you need a heavily fortified car.) boyfriend, who doesn't see Bella for who she really is, a flawed human being. To Edward, she's a glass figurine with no imperfections, delicate and about to break at any second. I understand that Edward is trying to protect Bella, but the act gets old after the first book. I also understand that Edward is supposed to be perfect: the perfect boyfriend, the perfect husband, the perfect father. He is not. Enough said.

Bella, as well, makes me want to gag with all her talk about how perfect Edward is. I feel like Breaking Dawn made me realize all of the things that I disliked about the series. It also made me realize how much I love Harry Potter. But that's another story.
Anywho, back to Bella: Having sex even though your boyfriend is bruising you??? I know the continuation of this "sexiness" was for the romantic saps in all of us, but I didn't consider it such. And besides, Breaking Dawn is talking about sex half the book, yet SMeyer conveniently fades to black when things really start to happen. I'm not really complaining, but I think it's a bit hypocritical.
Back to Bella thinking Edward is the most perfect thing on the planet: Bella sees him the same way, except she doesn't have control of him. As I said, boooorrring. At least, after 3 books of the same shit. I want Bella to CHANGE. DEVELOPE. GROW. Is that too much to ask????? Why can't she go off to college, do something independent, rather than relying on Edward 24/7.

Jacob. Jacob will always be my favorite character. I know I'm in the minority here. I have been told that I am delusional for liking him and in order to to fit in with the majority, I claimed to friends and family that I had decided that I really liked Edward better. This was a half-hearted lie, my heart was still set on Jacob. I think the reason I like Jacob so much is because he is an interesting & relatable character with flaws like everyone else. I can't relate to Bella. I most certainly can't relate to Edward. But Jacob is a typical teenager and he happens to fall for the wrong girl. Jacob is a true friend to Bella, he sees her for who she is: someone who is flawed, and he still loves her. He calls Bella out on her flaws and she treats him likewise. They know each other, as Edward says. And also, Jacob is the guy that Bella can fool around with, do silly things with, act like a teenager with, have real fun with. I feel like I never read about Edward and Bella doing truely teenage things (other then making out). They spend all their time admiring their fantasy of each other. Bella and Jacob joke around, do stupid, yet human things together, and genuinely have fun together. And neither one tries to control the other. There are times when Jacob does caution Bella or warn her, but he never comes to close to Edward in that aspect. SMeyer, I commend you on Jacob's behalf. He is actually a well-written character who matures throughout the series and is relatable. He's not perfect, but that's what's so great about him.

Plot of Breaking Dawn: I WANT SOMETHING EXCITING FOR 200 PAGES OF VULTURI COMING TO FORKS. NOT BORING TALKING AND HAVING ALL YOUR VAMPIRE FRIENDS JOIN THE PARTY. I felt like I had been robbed of precious time when all the Volturi did was talk with the Cullens. I mean, if J.K. Rowling can pull off massive battles without killing off the main character, SMeyer should be able to as well. I mean, Dobby died. I may never be able to forgive JK for that. I cried like a baby. But it made the story better. I cried when Dumbledore died. Once again, it gave the story a dangerous edge. So SMeyer, it would have been ok if you gave like Carlisle a heroic death or something. At least it would have made the story a bit more interesting. Reading about Bella's "love shield" or whatever the heck it is for 200 pages is NOT INTERESTING IN THE SLIGHTEST. I mean, I was so excited when I got this book, which in turn, enabled me to read super quickly. But as the last 300 pages dragged on and on and on and on, it just got to be too much.

And what the hell was with Reneesme?????!?!?!?!?!?! Horrible name btw. What was she thinking? Combining names ONLY WORKS FOR CELEBRITY COUPLES LIKE TOMKAT OR BRANGELINA. And the whole pregnancy thing was just so out of the blue. I mean, talk about big twist! But it wasn't a good twist. It was kinda lame. And gross. Sorry, I don't want to read about a vampire hybrid biting its way out of its mother's stomach. And then Jacob imprinting on her? Convenient way to end the Jacob/Bella storyline, eh? But kinda weird. But a little cute that he takes such good care of the baby. But then again, creepy cause he wants to marry her when she's old.

Oh, and I thought it was quite convenient that Bella skipped over the whole crazed-newborn phase...Nice way to skip around that SMeyer!

Ok. So I basically, I'm just going to forget that Breaking Dawn ever happened and pretend that Eclipse was the final book. Oh, and the last line made me want to vomit. GIVE ME A BREAK. I don't want a happy ending for this story. I want something drastic and depressing. Different. Nothing depressing happened in these books. Ever. I want a death of a big character or something unexpected.

I guess that's all I have to say for now. My ranting is done with for now. :)

I'm sorry I haven't posted in a while! I've been going to multiple weddings and on vacation and stuff with my family, so I haven't had much time to post.

However, when I get back from this last wedding, I promise I will post my icons, Dark Knight review, and Breaking Dawn review. :D

What the fuck have you done lately?

Trailer.

First off, Wall-E is tied with Monsters, Inc. as the cutest Pixar movie ever. The whole movie was like one collective "Awww..." and I even cried in the end. I shed tears because of the sweetness of the final scene between Wall-E and Eve, which reminded me of the finale of Monsters, Inc. when Sulley finally sees Boo again. Throughout the movie, Wall-E and Eve say about three words totally, "Wall-E," "Eve," and "Directive." And despite this, the movie is almost perfection.

I think my favorite part of the movie was the first 40 minutes or so when Wall-E and Eve are on earth. The fact that Wall-E is characterized through his actions and body language is pure genius and Pixar pulled it off perfectly. Not once during this portion of the movie was I disappointed or bored. Once the humans appeared, I didn't think the movie as perfect anymore. I felt like Wall-E and Eve and all of the other robots were so perfectly animated, and then along come these cartoonistic humans which kind of clashes with the brief live human performances. I'm pretty sure the difference in realism between the robots and the people was intended, but I feel like it took away from the seriousness of the movie, and quite frankly, the cuteness.

However, I still loved the movie. I think because I saw reviews hailing it as "a masterpiece" and praising it constantly, I entered the theater with extremely high expectations, unrealistic expectations, most likely. And don't get me wrong, Wall-E is amazing and a must-see, but I wasn't blown away by it because I was expecting it to be freakin' amazing and it was. Essentially, I had prepared myself for its amazingness and wasn't disappointed, nor was I surprised.

Lastly, I want my own Wall-E. For realz.

Which still doesn't do justice to how much I freakin' loved this movie.

I have been super excited about this movie ever since I heard that my two loves, James McAvoy and Angelina Jolie, would be present in the film. So that's been probably like six or seven months. A month or two ago, I learned that it was rated R and got a bit nervous that my parents wouldn't allow me to see it (Remember Atonement?). However, they didn't prohibit me from going to the midnight showing with my brother.

I was actually a bit nervous previous to seeing the movie because I had read that it was extremely violent, which I can only take so much of. This, coupled with a premonition that the movie would be too over-the-top and contain an embarrasingly stupid script (Transformers), made me hesitant to declare that I would love it. However, the movie had a lot in its favor as well: Angelina Jolie, James McAvoy, and tons of cool action are just a few things that I love.

However, I loved the movie (times 04396734069730496) for the following reasons:
1. Angelina Jolie. Is like a GODDESS. Or something. Seriously. She kicked major butt in this movie and made it look so effortless. Plus, she just has that badass look. However, besides the obvious things, I really liked her character. Fox had much more depth as a character, than say Mrs. Smith or Lara Croft. In one conversation, she tells Wesley about the reasoning behind becoming an assasin for the Fraternity and she tells him a little bit about her past. I thought this was a really interesting scene and it really added to her character, especially since it is referenced later on. Also, the decision that Fox makes in the end really made me respect her character, plus it was such a badass moment. So, basically this movie made me love Angelina Jolie like ten to twenty times more, if that is even possible.

2. James McAvoy. You all know that I love him too. And he was amazing in the movie, especially for this being a completely different film from what he is used to. From the trailer, I thought his American accent sounded a bit weird at times, but in the actual film where there was a lot of narrating, he pulled it off almost perfectly. And if you have heard his super sexy, super thick Scottish accent, it's even more impressive.

3. The action. Man, this movie was so BADASS. Just see it, and you will understand. My favorite part is either when Fox catches Wesley with her car (OMG) or when Wesley jumps through the factory window and owns like tons of people.

4. The length. It was PERFECT. The perfect length. Never has a movie length felt so perfect. I was not bored once and I never wished that the movie would end at any point during the film. Probably the sexiest, most ridiculously amazing 100 minutes I have ever seen.

5. The violence. I went into the movie nervous that I would be disturbed by all the violence, because while I can take a lot of it, I can only take so much graphic violence, you know? But I think the movie made everything feel so nonchalant and lighthearted, that except for one part, I was never really grossed out. I know that sounds a bit messed up, but there is so much else going on in the movie that you don't dwell on things for very long.

6. The script. There were some lines in this movie that were priceless. Like my subject title. Perfectly delivered and in the perfect places. The movie hardly ever takes itself serious and the script was perfect for it. Some of the best lines are at the end. So perfect. You will know them if you see the movie.

7. The twist. I won't say anything else other than that I wasn't expecting the twist. And for a bit, I thought it was a little bit lame, but then I realized it was just awesome. :P

So yeah, GO SEE IT.

I loved both films SO MUCH. While overall I think Wall-E was the better film, I was more blown away by Wanted. Also, both films were extremely enjoyable, but Wanted like blew my socks off.
I say, GO SEE BOTH OF THESE MOVIES. NOW. You will not regret it.

So. The last time I posted icons was March 16. More than 3 months ago.
I am incredibly sorry for that. The end of the school year is always super hectic for me because I'm on the varsity tennis team for my school and then teachers give you research papers and an exceptional amount of work in order to cram everything in. It is a nightmare. However, I managed to make a few icons here and there and so I have a modest post of about 130 icons. :)

Anyways, sorry for neglecting my icon-making duties! I assure you that I will post icons much more frequently this summer. :D

Brokeback Mountain is a beautiful movie. I feel that it deserved every bit of praise it was given. If you haven't seen it, watch it for its quality as a film, at least. And if you have problems with the gay themes, that's hardly the point or message of the movie. I watched it as two people falling in love and didn't have a problem with it. If you watch it as "the gay cowboy movie," you'll ruin it for yourself. Watch it with an open mind and you'll appreciate it.

But anyways, I made very simplistic icons of the movie because I didn't want to mess with such beautiful caps. Hence the lack of textures, text, and brushes.

Also, I hope I did Heath justice in those icons. I'm kind of glad I took my time making these. I think it would have felt a little bit too rushed and clichéd if I had posted them the day or week after his death. And also, I was still working on them because I am a slow-poke when it comes to creating icons. I miss you Heath.

James McAvoy was unbelievably sexy and charming in Penelope and if I hadn't been in the movie theater with lots of people around me, I would've been proclaiming my love like every two minutes. That's what his sexiness does.

And they have all been awesome (well, Brothers Grimm and Lords of Dogtown were not the best movies in the world, but they were good. Because of Heath basically.)

Just watched Becoming Jane.... all I have to say is:

OMG.

JAMES MCAVOY YOU ARE TOO SEXY.

I will not be commenting on these pictures because they are too sexy for words...

If you are not already a rabid fan of Mr. McAvoy's or are not convinced by those beautiful pictures of him, then I suggest you watch Atonement and Becoming Jane. Both are fine films that are only made better because of James' presence.

I feel like I've been holding back my love. And dude, the dam of love broke when I was watching Becoming Jane.

I keep trying to make icons of Heath. And everytime I open up pictures of him, I just can't do it.
I cried like all Tuesday afternoon. And it's been all I can think of this week.
This one scene in 10 Things I Hate About You makes me want to cry because it keeps running through my head and then I remember that he'll never smile like that again. And I'll never hear my favorite accent again.

Rest in peace Heath.
Btw, my new journal title is from this one part in 10 Things I Hate About You when Heath and Julia Stiles are talking on the porch. And I hate peas as well.

I still can't believe it.
